In 1922 Herschel with Tulsa (Western League) batted .370 with 56 doubles and 24 homers. At one point he hit safely in 26 games, missed one, and then hit in another 26 straight games. He began the next season with the Browns but saw very little action and was sent back to Tulsa where he hit .336. That earned him another shot with the Browns, on July 22nd he was hitting .336 on that day he was hit by a pitch that broke his arm. He returned late in the season but was never the same.
