James Edward Brown is married and has no children and lives in Bakersfield, California per the 1949 California League Gold Book.  His nationality is Irish-Dutch.  He graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1942 and played baseball and basketball.  He attends the University Of California and will be a junior in the off-season.  He was a member of the N.C.A.A. baseball championship team in 1947.  He served in the U. S. Army Signal Corps for three years.  His ambition is to have a lifetime career in baseball.
