Personal

  • Resided in Folsom, California in 1952 and 1953.

Pre-professional career

  • Graduated from Folsom High School in 1951.
  • Played baseball and basketball in high school.
  • While pitching for Folsom American Legion Post he pitched two no-hitters against Placerville, fanning 20 batters in one game; in six games in 1951 he struck out 113 in 54 innings allowing a total of only 16 hits.

Achievements

  • On May 23, 1952 he pitched a no-hit-no run game against Pocatello with a score of 8-0 in 9 innings.
  • Led the 1952 Pioneer League in bases on balls issued with 166.

Outside of baseball

  • Was a mechanic's helper during the off-season in 1952 and 1953.
