• Resided in Chicago, Illinois in 1952.
• Self-identified as being of Polish ancestry.
• Hit a home run in his first time at bat in 1939.
• Says his owes most in baseball to Bill Sweeney, now the manage of the Seattle club.
• Driving in six runs in one inning with Macon in 1941 and banging out two grand slams homers against Oakland in a Governor's Cup contest on October 3, 1948 when he was with Los Angeles were his greatest baseball thrills;the feat of two grand slam home runs tied a Pacific Coast League Record but it does not go into the record books as it was a post-season game.

• Attended Tilden Tech in Chicago, Illinois.
• Did not participate in athletics at Tilden Tech.

Achievements

• Split the 1947 Los Angeles Most Valuable Player award with Jess Dobernic.
• Led the 1939 Northern League in most strikeouts by a batter with 120.
• Led the 1940 Alabama State League in home runs with 30, runs batted in with 120 and total bases with 306.
• Led the 1941 South Atlantic League in triples with 20.
• Led the 1943 Pacific Coast League in home runs with 21 and batter strikeouts with 109.

Outside of baseball

• Was a carpenter during the off-season in 1952.

Contract signing

• Was drafted on November 10, 1947 from Los Angeles by the Boston Red Sox.
