Personal

• Resided in Torrance, California in 1952.
• Self-identified as being of Yugoslav ancestry.
• Listed hobby as photography.
• Hit a home run off Joe Haynes of the Chicago White Sox on the first pitch in his initial game as a member of the Detroit Tigers in 1948; this is also his biggest thrill.

Pre-professional career

• Attended San Fernando High School.
• Played baseball, basketball and was on the track team in high school.

Outside of baseball

• Was a carpenter during the off-season in 1952.
