  • The Midwest League played a 142 game, two-division, split-season schedule which began on April 11 and ended on September 1. The first half ended on June 19.
  • An All-Star Game was played on June 21 between All-Star Teams representing the league's Northern and Southern Divisions. The North won by a 6-1 score[1].
  • A two-tier championship playoff was held after the season. The best-of-three championship round was won by Waterloo.
  • Total 1980 attendance: 529,603.
