He was known as Bill Collins during his 1952 season with the Marion (NC) Marauders of the Class D Western Carolina League. An article in The McDowell News reported that his home was in Newton, Massachusetts.[1]
Collins was the son of John "Shano" Collins who managed the Boston Red Sox in 1931 and 1932.[2]
