Rotz taught shop and coached several sports at Decatur High School after graduating from Milliken University[1], then sold insurance after resigning his teaching position in protest of the school board's lack of support for athletics. He was an active official in Illinois sports, working in basketball and football. In the mid-1940s he was a Republican state senator.
