Pre-professional career
- Played Little League, Pony League, Colt League, and American Legion ball.
- In 1968, he lead Manatee Junior College to second place in the National Junior College Tournament.
- In 1970, he helped pitch Florida State University to District Three championship and second place in the College World Series.
- Played semi-pro ball for Pierre S.D. Cowboys in the Basin League in 1969-70.
Achievements
- Selected to play in the 1972 Eastern League All-Star Game.
