Played football, basketball, and baseball in high school and was named MVP of the Peninsula Athletic League in 1958-59 and Northern California Player of the Year in 1958. In 1958 was selected to represent San Francisco in the annual Hearst Sandlot Classic Game in New York. Was signed for the Philadephia Phillies by Dolph Camilli[1].
