- The Midwest League played a 140 game, two-division, split-season schedule which began on April 15 and ended on August 31. The first half ended on June 24.
- This was the MWL's first 140-game season.
- An All-Star Game was played on June 8 between a Midwest League All-Star team and the American Association's Iowa Oaks; the Stars won by a 5-2 score[1].
- A two-tier championship playoff was held after the season. The best-of-three championship round was won by Burlington.
- Total 1977 attendance: 548,097.
