George Zoeterman/pagetext
From SABR Encyclopedia
He was signed by the White Sox (receiving a $1500 bonus) while still in high school, which Commissioner Chandler held was a violation of the Major League Rules. The White Sox believed he was misinterpreting the rule and briefly refused to pay the fine before giving in. Zoeterman became a free agent again and signed with the Cubs for a $10,000 bonus.
