  • Played Little League, Babe Ruth League and Connie Mack ball.
  • In 1968, he led Yakima Valley Junior College to a Washington state community college championship.
  • Played varsity baseball at Washington State University, where he earned a B.A. in General Studies.
  • In 1970, was named to All-Conference second team and NCAA All-District Eight third team.
  • Was member of team representing Canada in World Amateur Baseball Tournament in Cartegena, Colombia in 1970.
  • In 1971, he set school record for most innings pitched in a season with 98.
