- In 1968, he led Yakima Valley Junior College to a Washington state community college championship.
- Played varsity baseball at Washington State University, where he earned a B.A. in General Studies.
- In 1970, was named to All-Conference second team and NCAA All-District Eight third team.
- Was member of team representing Canada in World Amateur Baseball Tournament in Cartegena, Colombia in 1970.
- In 1971, he set school record for most innings pitched in a season with 98.
