- Resided in San Francisco, California in 1953.
- Did not play in 1951 and 1952, refusing to report to Lincoln in 1951 and because of "technical difficulties" in 1952.
- Hitting a pinch grand slam home run for Lincoln against Denver with his parents watching the contest was his biggest thrill.

- Served in the U.S. Navy in 1945-1946.
