His nationality is English-German. He graduated from Long Beach Poly High School in 1937 and played baseball and basketball. He is a radio and TV salesman during the off-season. He served in the U. S. Navy for three years. He has had two "big moments" in baseball. The first was knocking in the winning runs in both ends of a double header for the Chicago Cubs against the Saint Louis Cardinals on July 4, 1941. The second was receiving a diamond pin as a member of the 1948 Boston Braves, the National League Champions.
