Robert (Sturge) Harwood Sturgeon is married and has one son, Jimmy age 4. He lives in Long Beach, California per the 1952 California League Gold Book (Fourth Edition). His nationality is English-German. He graduated from Long Beach Poly High School in 1937 and played baseball and basketball. He is a radio and TV salesman during the off-season. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years. He has had two "big moments" in baseball. The first was knocking in the winning runs in both ends of a double header for the Chicago Cubs against the Saint Louis Cardinals on July 4, 1941. The second was receiving a diamond pin as a member of the 1948 Boston Braves, the National League Champions. He led the 1939 American Association shortstops in assists with 472; and included in the 1939 American Association shortstops were Phil Rizzuto and Pee Wee Reese.
