- Single and residing in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania in 1953 and 1955.
- His hobbies were hunting, golf and playing ukulele.
- His biggest day in baseball was in the first game for Lockport in the Pennsylvania-Ontario-New York League when he hit two home runs and a single and batted in five runs.

- He graduated from McConnellsville High School in 1949 and participated in baseball, basketball, track and soccer.
- He was the Pennsylvania state pole vault prep champion with a mark of 12' 3 3/4".
- He played American Legion ball for the McConnellsburg Post.

- He was a maintenance man for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Highway during the off-season as of 1953.
- He was recently discharged from the U.S. Army Engineers after two years of service as of 1953.
