  • Played baseball and football at Sacramento Junior College, and was selected to the all-conference baseball team.
  • Was named the most valuable player of the Sacramento Junior College football team.
  • Played semi-pro ball for the Glenn County Cardinals in the Sacramento Valley League.
  • Played American Legion ball at Sacramento in 1949.
