The Lowell Daily Citizen, Aug. 9, 1866: "Base Ball Match. A base ball match was played on Salem Common, on Tuesday afternoon, between a picked nine of the Salem Clubs, and eight of the M.T. Base Ball Club, of Lowell..." The game was a nine inning tie.
