  • Resided in Oakland, California in 1953.
  • Self-identified as being of Spanish-Irish-English ancestry.
  • Made four hits in four at bats with Grand Island in the 1937 Nebraska State League in his first game.
  • Broke his third finger on his left hand when making a play at second base on August 24, 1948 and was out for the rest of the season.
  • Broke his leg on June 6, 1952 and was on the disabled list until October 6, 1952.

  • Won letters in baseball and football in high school.
  • Was captain of the baseball team for two years and made the city all-star team both years in high school.

  • Led the 1939 Texas League in runs scored with 129 and bases on balls received with 153.
  • Led the 1942 Pacific Coast League in runs scored with 118 and bases on balls received with 107.
  • Led the 1945 American League shortstops in assists with 459 and double plays with 112.
  • Led the 1947 American League shortstops in most errors with 43.
