• His team, Seattle University, made the NCAA play-offs three straight years.
• Played high school, college and semi-pro ball with the O'Brien twins of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
• Was the leading pitcher in 1950 for the South Amboy Briggs who were the New Jersey state semi-pro champions, accounting for the team's only two wins in the National Tournament at Wichita, Kansas.
