Getting to the information entry page

Early baseball in Ohio page

Once you are on an Early baseball region site, you will see three lists: early games, early clubs, and early predecessors games. At the end of each list is a link to add a new piece of information to that list. Each link is circled in the screenshot on the right.

Adding information

There are three areas in which you can add information: games, clubs, and predecessors games. The process for entering information is very similar for all three.

Adding new games, clubs, or predecessors games

Add game information entry page

Once you are at an early games site, you can add new information to the lists. We will use the example of adding a game. Find the link for "Add games," at the end of the Early games section. Once you click it, a screen will open where you can enter in all the information from that game. There is a screenshot of the information entry page of a new game in Ohio on the right side. Fill in all known information, while keeping a few things in mind:

  • Only enter information that you are ABSOLUTELY SURE of. If there is any doubt about information, you can write a note about that in the summary box at the bottom of the screen
  • Include as much information as possible, but do not make up information just to fill in the boxes.

Once you are finished with the basic data, you should move on to the the summary box below. This summary should include a description of why you believe the game took place on this date, and what evidence you have found for whether or not it was played under New York base ball rules. Please cite sources. Games added with no source information will not be added to the database. Leave a space between each paragraph so that the information formats correctly after everything is complete.

When you are done with the summary, click on Save page. This will take you back to the page for the region you are working on. The information you entered will be in gray; these items will be approved and then turn into the proper color.

The same basic process can be repeated for adding clubs and predecessors games. You can find the links for "Add club," and "Add predecessor game," at the bottom of each respective section.
