McCambridge was killed when hit by a train at Erie, Pennsylvania on Sunday, May 5, 1912.  He and a brother were hoboing it to Buffalo and were changing trains in Erie when the accident happened. The Youngstown Vindicator of May 6, 1912 provides additional details.
