Larry Kindred was born November 7, 1920, in Atlanta, Illinois. He stood 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighed about 165 pounds during his playing days. He batted left-handed and threw right-handed. He died September 9, 2001.

He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and fought in the Pacific theater. He also served two tours in the Korean War and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years in the Marines.

His roommate on the 1942 Norfolk Tars was Chuck Connors, later a major league outfielder and TV's "Rifleman".
