  • Played baseball and basketball in high school.
  • Twiced pitched Vancouver High School to district championships and once to the state title.
  • Was selected as star of the 1950 All-Star game and pitched the State team to a victory over Seattle.
  • Played Junior League Legion ball at Vancouver in 1949 and 1950.
  • In 1950 his Junior League Legion team won the Southern Division and district titles.
  • He was one strike away from a no-hit, no-run game with the Junior Legion team.
