Pre-professional career

  • Played Little League, Pony League, Colt League, and American Legion ball.
  • Lettered in baseball and basketball in high school.
  • Played varsity baseball and basketball at Indiana State University.
  • Led Indiana State University in hitting his junior and senior seasons.
  • As a senior, batted .413 overall, .439 in conference games and was named the all-conference shortstop and team MVP.
  • Graduated from Indiana State with a B.S. degree.

Transactions

  • Spent much of the 1965 Appalachian League season on the disabled list with a sprained ankle after a collision at home plate.
