Pre-professional career
- Played baseball, football, and basketball in high school.
- Coached at Anderson by Carl Erskine; won Hoosier College Conference titles in 1963 and 1965. Had NAIA berth in 1965.
- Batted .413 in 1965 and was named an NAIA All-American outfielder.
Achievements
- Led 1965 Appalachian League in batting average.
