Personal

  • Resided in Atlanta, Georgia in 1952.
  • Self-identified as being of African-American ancestry.
  • Gained his experience playing in South America and Mexico in 1941, 1942, 1943 and 1948.
  • Pitching a no-hit, no-run game after the first man got on base with a bases on balls, the only
 man to get on basein the game was his biggest thrill. 
  • Pitched 10 innings in his first game in 1949 winning for his club, Wilkes-Barre, over Scranton.
  • Is a good singer.

  • Was all-scholastic in baseball in high school.
  • Attended Clark College in Atlanta and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree.
  • Made all-Southern team in baseball in college.

  • Is a mail clerk during the off-season.
  • Served in the U. S. Army Infantry during World War II in Italy.
