Phone conversation, 2009-05-12

Mr. Dwyer called after finding his records online to inquire about SABR. We talked about SABR, research, and a little about his career. A few bits from the conversation follow. --Pgarver 16:01, 12 May 2009 (EDT)

  • He was born in Geneva, New York on 1935-01-19. His grandfather, Frank Dwyer settled there after attending Hobart College in town
  • His first manager, in Jamestown, was Tony Lupian, who was a 1B for the Red Sox in the 40s.
  • He hurt his arm before the 1958 season, which is why he played less games that year.
  • After playing baseball (not sure if it was directly after), he lived in Erie for 10 years, where he coached Steve Grilli (possibly in high school?), father of Jason Grilli.
  • He now lives in Palm Bay, Florida, and is interested in getting in touch with players he knew.
