Excerpt of email received at encyclopedia@sabr.org via John Zajc:

Hello,

My father was Frank Kress. He played for the Mansfield Braves in 1940
before he was drafted to serve in WWII.

I wanted to add some information to my father's statistics:
He was 6'3" and 185 pounds during his baseball career. He was a right-
handed pitcher.
Frank Kress posthumously received the "Bob Eagler Memorial Award" in
2006 from the Niagara Falls Sports Hall of Fame.
He began his career in 1938 as a star pitcher for the Chisox in the
Junior American Legion Baseball League when he was 16 years old. He
went on to pitch for the Bugays Muny Semi-Pro Baseball League, the
Lewiston Merchants Semi-Pro ball Independent League, and the Factory
League for Carborundum Co. He was scouted by Dick Case and sent to
the Cleveland Indians farm system where he was a regular pitcher for
the Mansfield Braves with reports of possessing the fastest ball on
the squad. He went on to pitch for the McRoberts club in McRobert,
Kentucky. After the war ended, Frank's friend Sal Maglie offered to
get him a try-out with his team the NY Giants, however Frank opted to
go to college instead. He graduated third of his class from
University of Buffalo.
