At Bucknell, he was a three-year starter in baseball and basketball and captain of both teams. After his minor league career, he was either an assistant coach or head coach at Bucknell (baseball, basketball, golf and tennis teams) for more than three decades, retiring in 2001. He is a member of the Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame[1] His brother, James Thompson was also a professional ballplayer, playing in the Cleveland Indians organization.[2]
