Davidson was among the umpires who resigned during the 1999 major league umpire strike, and was not immediately returned to his job when the strike ended. In 2003 he was hired as a minor league umpire and assigned to the Northwest League. In 2005 and 2006 he was officially a AAA call-up umpire, though he worked in major league ball full-time both seasons.
