As a knuckleball starter for Connie Mack's in 1937 winning 12 while losing 19 games,1938 wasn't much better losing 20 and 19 in 1940. George was waived to the St.Louis Browns after the 1940 season,
he became an effective reliever leading athe AL in saves with 12 in 1944 the year the Browns won their
only pennant.
