  • Served in the U.S. Army for 40 months, the last 17 months in Japan.
  • Played shortstop and pitched foer the Headquarters and Service Command all star team in Tokyo in 1951-1952 and won 22 games and lost 3, avering 10 strikeouts per game and hit .431 in 64 games, getting 22 home runs, 18 triples, 36 doubles, 64 runs batted in and stealing 36 bases.
  • Was released from the Armed Forces in 1952.
