The Mobile Register 11-24-68 reported a game at the State Fair between two Montgomery teams, where the Montgomery BBC beat Capitol City 37-15. There were teams, and undoubtedly games, prior to this.
Montgomery AL (pop. about 205,000 -- 103rd in the US) is in central Alabama, about 95 miles S of Birmingham and 160 miles NE of Pensacola. In the 1860s its population was 9000 to 10,500.
