The Freeport (IL) North West July 12, 1866 notes that the Julians of Dubuque IA played in a multi-state tournament in Rockford.
The state in which the tournament occurred is not explicit. Rockford IA (current pop. about 850) is about 110 miles N of Des Moines and 30 miles S of the Iowa border. Rockford IL (1860 pop. about 7000; 1870 pop. about 11,000) is about 80 miles W of Chicago.
