Atchison "Freedom's Champion" July 25, 1867: "Base Ball. The Base Ball club of our city played a fine game yesterday, on their grounds in West Atchison. The result was the defeat of [J.H.] Sawyer's nine [by a score of 52-41]."
Atchison KS (1860 pop. about 2600, 1870 pop. about 7000) is about 50 miles NW of Kansas City KS and in the NE corner of the state.
