David Sansing, The University of Mississippi. A Sesquicentennial History, p. 140, says [Ole Miss]“students organized a baseball club in the early 1870s.”

Oxford MS (pop. about 19,000) is in northern MS, about 150 miles N of Jackson and about 50 miles SE of Memphis TN.
