The Sedalia Daily Democrat July 19, 1872 reports that the Enterprise of Jefferson City beat the Aurora of California, MO 51-12 at California. The Jefferson City "State Journal," June 27, 1873: "The Enterprise Base Ball Club of this city and the Occidental of New Haven, Mo., will play a match game at Chamois on the 4th of July..." From the context of the article, it would seem likely that the Enterprise Club existed prior to 1873.
Jefferson City MO (1870 pop. about 4400) is in central Missouri and about 120 W of St. Louis MO. California MO (current pop. about 4300) is about 25 miles W of Jefferson City.
