"BASE BALL -- The first match of the season at this game took place yesterday afternoon in East Newark, between the Newark Jr., and Newark Clubs, which resulted in the defeat of the former. A large number of visitors were present, many of whom were ladies. The playing was good and creditable to both clubs, and with a little more practice the Juniors though young will make capital players. The game excited much attention, and several good catches and strikes were applauded - particularly a catch by Durand H. Plume of the Juniors. Four innings were played with the following results: Newark Club -- Wm Dodd 4, F. C. Dodd 4, T. Speer 4, Wambold 2, Van Ness 3, Mikles 3, Clinton 3, A. Baldwin 2, J. Kase 2; total 27 Newark Junior Club -- Valentine 1, Bolles 1, Browe 3, Lum 2, Halsey 3, Benedict 3, Halsted 2, Duryea 2, Munn 2, total 19."
