From Protoball Entry #1859.2 – Elusive Intercollegiate Game [First Played by NY Rules] Pits St. Francis Xavier and Fordham College
Per Sullivan, Dean A., Compiler and Editor, Early Innings: A Documentary History of Baseball, 1825-1908 [University of Nebraska Press, 1995], p. 32. Sullivan dates the game November 3, 1859, but does not give a source.
Craig Waff [email of May 21, 2009] reported that he has not been able to confirm this game, and that press material from Fordham does not document the game. SABR's Baseball Index [TBI] cites a Fordham game in the June 16 1860 Clipper. Query: Does this 1860 account, once located, report on the 1859 game? The Xavier College in this story is presumably College of St. Francis Xavier, a Mahattan institution that closed in 1913. The two colleges were linked in history.
