The Petersburg (VA) Index Appeal, July 10, 1878, says a game was played at Weldon Monday between the 2nd nine of the Roanoke and the first nine of the Blue Devils, both of Weldon, won 36-32 by the former.
Weldon NC (current pop. about 1,400)is about 80 miles NE of Raleigh and about 10 miles from the Virginia border.
