The Raleigh Register, July 5, 1867 reports the Halifax baseball club will play a Petersburg Virginia baseball club at Halifax on July 4th.
Halifax NC (current pop. about 350) is about 80 miles NE of Raleigh and about 20 miles S of the VA border. Petersburg (1860 pop. about 18,000) is about 70 miles N of Halifax NC.
