The Bristol News, May 26, 1874 mentions that Abingdon had recently lost a game to Emory College.
Emory VA (current pop. about 1250 souls) is about 125 miles SW of Roanoke and near the TN borer. Abingdon is about 10 miles further SW. Emory is htte site of Emory and Henry College.
