The Richmond Whig, May 26, 1871, reports that “Suffolk, like almost every other town, has its base-ball club, numbering twenty-three members."

Suffolk VA (current pop. about 85,000) is about 80 miles SE of Richmond and about 25 miles SW of Norfolk.
