The Alexandria Gazette, July 12, 1866 says the young gentlemen of the city met last night at Lyceum Hall for organize a baseball club. Same August 27, 1866 notes the organization of the Pioneer Base Ball Club.
Alexandria VA (1860s pop. about 13,000)is about 5 miles S of Washington DC and on the Potomac River.
