The hand with which a person primarily threw during the majority of his playing career. Is of type string; permitted values are R, L, and S. 'S' should be used sparingly, primarily for 19th-century players who were truly ambidextrous. Pitchers who threw with the opposite hand for one-off stunts should not be coded as 'S'. Note that we use 'S' instead of 'B', because 'B' and 'R' look too similar in many typefaces.
