  • Was residing in Wilson, North Carolina in 1949 and in Atlantic Beach, Florida in 1955.
  • Self-identified as being of Scottish and Irish ancestry in 1949, and of Scottish-English ancestry in 1955.
  • Listed fishing and checkers among his hobbies in 1949, and fishing in 1955.
  • Married with one daughter in 1955.
  • Ambition in 1955 was to help to develop future major league players.
  • Replacing Joe Medwick in the lineup for the New York Giants and hitting a homer and two singles to help beat the Philadelphia Phillies was his biggest thrill in baseball.
