Stuart Spires was a professional baseball player in the Atlanta Braves minor league system. Spires signed with the Braves as an amateur free agent on June 18, 1990 by scout Roy Clark and was assigned to the GCL Braves in Bradenton, Florida.

Pre-professional career

  • Played baseball, football and basketball at Kings Mountain High School in Kings Mountain, NC.
  • Played for Kings Mountain High School on the 1989 NCHSAA 3A state champion baseball team and was named to the NC All-State team by the Greensboro News and Record.
  • Signed to play baseball at the University of Evansville prior to signing a pro contract.

Outside of baseball

  • Graduated from Anderson College (Anderson, SC) in 1995 and earned a graduate degree from Webster University (St. Louis, MO) in 1999.

Transactions

  • Signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Braves on June 18, 1990, by scout Roy Clark.
  • Signed six year minor league uniform player contract with the Braves on March 8, 1991.
  • Reported to spring training(1991) in West Palm Beach but did not pitch due to shoulder injury.
  • Released from contract by the Braves on October 15, 1991 after ongoing shoulder injuries.
