The Pirates thought very highly of young Pete when they traded for him in 1927. To get Pete and utility infielder [Sparky Adams] they gave up star outfielder and future Hall of Famer [Kiki Cuyler}. But finding a steady spot in the Pirates outfield would be no easy task. Pittsburgh already had the [Waner] brothers. Pete was playing very well in 1928 hitting .311 with 10 doubles,4 triples and 5 home runs in only 177 plate appearances when he crashed into the wall while chasing a long fly ball. He suffered a concussion that ended a promising Major League career.
